About the Author: Rainbow Rowell is an American author of young adult contemporary novels. Her young adult novels Eleanor & Park, Fangirl and Carry On have been subjects of critical acclaim (Wikipedia).

How did you learn about the book? I frequently see this book when I pass by National Bookstore or Fully Booked. It caught my attention because first, it has a simple and artsy cover that screams “Take a break from the heavy novels and pick me!” Second, I often see this at the Bestsellers’ aisle and you know, curiosity.

About: In Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life – and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow Series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

My Thoughts:

If the Sweet Valley Twins, Harry Potter and Twilight books have a baby, I believe this would be their love child. It’s as if the author grew up with influences from the relationship of Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, the magical world of wizards, and a coven of vampires. It’s like a fangirl of these series of books wrote about another fangirl trying to write her own book. Does this make sense? Lol

Rowell speaks in different interesting points of view – Cath Avery’s, Cath’s favorite Simon Snow chapters and Cath’s personal twist on the Simon Snow characters. It’s a “coming of age” novel about a wannabe fiction writer, who is still engrossed with the fandom that she grew up in.

An introvert, Cath, just wanted to lock herself in her college dorm room and finish her Simon Snow fanfiction before the true author of the series releases the final book. On the process, she finds her own real-life adventure through a twisted and awkward love story with her roommate’s ex-boyfriend.

This book is a perfect companion for a laid-back weekend. For a while, the story between Cath and Levi made me kilig! 😍 I finished the book in two days in excitement. 😁 Now, I’m off to my next Rainbow Rowell novel. Hehe! 😜
